The parties were bigger… the pace was faster, the morals were looser…
-F. Scott Fitzgerald on the twenties
Well despite being a great fan of Mr Fitzgerald, my party to bring in the twenties couldn’t have been smaller! Was laid low with a rotten cold so found myself snuggled up with a cup of tea and a dog on my lap at midnight. At least I wasn’t hungover for New Year’s Day, which meant I managed to beat my nieces (age 7 and 5) at Uno… one out of six games. 😳
Finished marathoning The Morning Show on the train home. Hard to say I enjoyed it, exactly, as it (rightly) took a bleak turn towards the end, but I thought they did a great, and pretty impressively unflinching job of exploring the topic. Cast were all top notch. Definitely recommend!
It’s rare I manage a full day’s writing the first day back after a break (normally muck about and tell myself I’m “planning”) but no rest for the wicked on Top Secret Project! Hunkered down with the fire on, a vat of tea and the rest of my selection box (thanks Santa!) to attack the first act with a vengeance (it’s a TV episode so five acts of around 10-12 pages). Still first draft-y but I’m cautiously starting to get excited about it!
Another day, another ten pages of script. That’s about the rate I aim for in a first draft — if I’ve plotted right, the goal is to essentially watch the thing in my head and kind of transcribe it without thinking too much. I start each morning by going over the script from the beginning again, polishing and tweaking, which gives me a sort of run up to that day’s writing. When I’d hit ten, I did some errands (don’t say I don’t spoil you with the fascinating details of my life!) and met some friends for a birthday Prosecco or three!
More pages, then blowing off the cobwebs of this cold with a long walk along the Kelvin. Quite impressively managed to get lost within five minutes’ walk of where I’ve lived for three years. Now I’m re watching La la Land for no particular reason and are they singing really softly or am I getting old? 😂
